Teens usually start getting interested in summer jobs around the age of 15. The typical 15 year old is in the 9th grade and knows they will get their driver’s license the next year and also might become more involved with dating. Both of these things require money and a job after school or during the summer can be the perfect solution.

The big problem is that there are just not that many jobs for 15 year olds available. First off, most 15 year olds have little to no experience working. For many, they are looking for their very first job hoping to get something that will give them a bit of experience. They need to find employers that have jobs a 15 year old can do that require little to no training.

As they can’t drive until they turn 16, 15 year olds don’t qualify for any delivery type jobs. They might be able to work behind a cash register but it would have to be for an employer who trusts them with money. Jobs as waiters and waitresses go to those that are older as do most other jobs. Unfortunately, 15 year olds are truly at the bottom rung of the employment ladder.

If that weren’t bad enough, this summer of 2009 might end up being the worst ever for jobs for 15 year olds. So many companies have gone out of business and the ones that have survived are operating on limited funds. This means the number of summer jobs created for teens will probably be lower than ever. Additionally, as many adults are without jobs and in dire need of work, they are willing to take minimum wage jobs that they might not have wanted before. This again works to take jobs away from teens and 15 year olds.

Being 15 years old this summer and trying to find a job might be a tough task. If you have any ideas for jobs for 15 years old please leave them in the comments. What can 15 year olds and teens do this summer to make money?
