Flyers can be made for your baby sitting business, pet sitting business, lawn mowing business, or any other type of money making endeavor you want to try your hand at. Your flyer should have some personality and tell as much about you as it can. You need to advertise yourself and let people immediately know why you are the PERFECT person to help them with whatever service it is you provide. 

If you are wanting to take care of pets while people are away, your flier should cover what experience you have with animals and briefly go over the different things you can do (see flyer example below). If you are wanting to baby sit you should list your rates, explain where you live and where you can go, and also give the reader a good reason to call you. For any flyer you put up you need to be creative and SELL YOURSELF confidently without being too pushy.

DO WORK and if you can’t make one yourself on your computer, ask your parents to help you make one. It can be a fun project and together you can come up with an advertisement that, placed in the right places, will get your business off the ground!

One of the best things teenagers can do right now is start their own pet sitting and pet walking business. We all know that babysitting is a popular way to make money but it can be done for dogs and cats around your neighborhood as well.

If you live in an area that has lots of homes, chances are there are lots of families with dogs and cats. When they want to go on vacation, they either have to find someone to take care of their dog or take it to a kennel. Many people would much rather keep their pets at home if they can and would be very willing to pay a responsible teen to make sure the animal is fed and walked.

You Can Do This All Year

The good part about this gig is that it can be done year round as people go on vacation and leave town throughout the year and need their pets taken care of during those times. There might be more demand for it during the summer months but the more families you get to know, the more they will call you year round when they need your help. You can do this after school or whenever you have the time as long as you are able to do a good job feeding, walking, and playing with the animals you are taking care of.

How Do You Get Business?

Any teenager who likes animals can do this if they can find clients and the more friendly you are and the more people you get to know, the more business you will likely get. To find families who might use your pet sitting service, you can start out by periodically walking around your neighborhood. Remember, you need people who live near you so don’t go too far away. Talk to everyone walking their dog and tell them that you are available to help them out. Be friendly, pet their dogs, and make friends with them. Act as honest and responsible as possible because you want these people to call you back later and use you.

Having your own business cards to hand to them works very well so they can get in touch with you later on. What Should You Charge?

A good way to figure out how much to charge would be to go online and find out how much it would cost people to put their pets in a kennel. You want to then charge LESS than that so that the highest number of people will be interested in using you. People may have all sorts of requests including feeding, walking, playing with, and just looking in on their pets while they are away so you could have different rates for different services as well.

You might have to play around with a dollar rate for a while before you settle on something firm as you get feedback from people on how much they would be willing to pay. You could charge by the hour or by the day or some combination of the two. It doesn’t matter as long as your clients are happy, you are making money, and you are able to do get the job done.

The bottom line is that jobs for 15 year olds are mostly impossible to find right now and starting your own pet care business is something any responsible teenager can do. . If you do well on your first couple of jobs, the families may recommend you to their friends and you may start to get calls from other families. It can work out quite well and turn into a small business for you where you both have fun and make money!

One of the jobs for 15 year olds that is real that they can actually get paid for is shoveling snow. So rather than sitting indoors all day playing video games, teenagers everywhere should be outside (now that the storm has passed) trying to find people willing to pay them for clearing their driveways, walkways, and snowdrifts around their houses.

This is NOT the time to be lazy and some real good money can be made if you go out with your shovel and try to find work. Most schools are off and most businesses are closed down so that means most people are at home stranded and waiting for things to settle down with the weather.

All sorts of people will need snow shoveling help and will most likely be willing to pay for it. Most homeowners probably don’t have snow blowing machines that can take care of this quantity of snow and good old elbow grease from a 15 year old is what they need.

If you want to become a life guard it requires specialized training so you can become certified.  Also, certification only lasts a certain amount of time and then you need to take a re-certification course, which is usually cheaper and not as long as the original course. Lifeguard information sites:

There are a number of places to get information on becoming a life guard.  The two key places I recommend are: The American Lifeguard Association or The American Red Cross Lifeguard Training websites.

Requirements:

To become a lifeguard you must be at least 15 years of age and successfully complete a lifeguard training course which is 30 – 37 hours in length depending on the type of lifeguard certification you are wanting to earn.
The four types of lifeguarding are:
1. Traditional lifeguard – lifeguard working at traditional pools
2. Waterfront lifeguard – lifeguards at non-surf, open water areas like lakes, rivers, and traditional pools
3. Waterpark lifeguard – lifeguards at water parks, multi-attraction facilities, and traditional pools
4. Shallow Water Attendant – lifeguard that only work in areas with water that is up to 4 feet deep.

Certification:

Lifeguard certification is usually valid for 3 years.  At that time you will need to take re-rcertification course.
Most lifeguards usually also need to take a first aid/CPR or first aid/CPR/AED course.  This may be included in some of the lifeguard certification courses.  However, these certificates usually last only 2 years.

It is important to stay up on the different types of certification and expiration dates, since they are not all the same.

Once you have your lifeguard certification you can also look into these other jobs:

1) When you turn 16 years of age you can become certified to teach swimming lessons or become a swim coach.

2) When you are 17 and have a basic lifeguarding certificate you can take classes to become a lifeguarding instructor.

1) Tutoring – many students need help with their studies and if you are especially good at one or more subjects, you might be able to get some tutoring jobs. What is good about this kind of work is that you can probably do it right after school and it can be quite convenient if you can find other kids who need help. Of course, you will have to find students who have parents that are willing to pay you for it to be a profitable venture.

2) Babysitting – this has always been and probably always will be one of the most popular jobs for 15 year olds and older. The more friends and acquaintances you have at school and in your neighborhood will determine how many possible babysitting jobs you might be able to get. This job would have you working at night but usually not too late so it would have to be OK’d by your parents.

3) Pet sitting / walking – this is another type of job you can get and do after school. Like babysitting, it will mean you need to find people in your neighborhood who have pets and need your help. Rather than take their dogs to a kennel when they go out of town on vacation, many would rather be able to leave their dogs at home. This means you might be able to build up a customer base of people that you pet sit for when they are away. You would have to make sure the dogs are fed and walked which is something you can easily do after school is out.

4) Lawn mowing and yard work – during the warmer months, you might be able to find people who want their lawns mowed and their weeds pulled. With many families having both the mom and dad working, this means less time for them to do the yard work. Other potential clients include seniors who need their yard kept up but are unable to do it themselves. The better the job you do, the more word of mouth customers you will get.

5) House cleaning – similar to yard work, if you are good at cleaning you might be able to get families who need their houses cleaned on a regular basis. You will want to do the absolute best job you can for this as you will be in someones house and you need to build up trust. This is another one of the after school jobs for 15 year olds that you can do well if you have word of mouth referrals.

6) Sell your unwanted clothes and games on Ebay – this isn’t really a job but it is a way to make extra money. You can do this anytime of the day and if you learn how to write the ads for your items and take good pictures, you will be amazed that you can really make money selling some of your unwanted things. You can even take it to the next level and go to the garage sales in your neighborhood looking for under priced things to buy and then turn around and sell them on Ebay.

7) Start a website or blog about something you enjoy – this is something that 15 year olds can do if they have computer and Internet skills. Making money online in this fashion is a long shot but if you are good at writing and start to get a lot of visitors, you can learn how to charge for advertisers and sell affiliate products. Even if you are unsuccessful at making money, you will learn a lot about the Internet and how it works which will benefit you later in life.

It is difficult for fifteen year olds to get real jobs where they get a paycheck because most companies won’t hire you until you are at least 16 years old. Part of the reason for this is because they would have to get extra insurance. This often leaves few choices for young teens (9th and 10th graders) who need money and they are forced to go out and make their own income generating opportunities. I have listed a few and there are surely many more if you use your imagination. After school jobs can be anything you can dream up that people will pay for. Good luck!

Since jobs are so hard to find, it might be time to create your own job if you can’t find one of your own. What do I mean by “create” a job? If you want to do some babysitting then print some fliers and put them on grocery store bulletin boards and attach them to people’s door knobs on their homes. If you want to clean houses or do yard work for people do the same thing with the fliers.

You may have services you can provide like pet walking, pet sitting, car washing, painting, and any other thing you might be able to do to make money. All you need are the clients and you will be in business. Now is the time to figure out ways to find people in your neighborhood who need things done. The more creative you are and the more outgoing you become, the better your chances of finding people who might be willing to pay you.

If you like babysitting, then network yourself all over and try to find some families close by who need a good babysitter. If you do a good job, remember to tell them to spread the word around and tell their friends. You should make sure you take every opportunity to make friends and get the word out that you are available to babysit, pet sit, weed, mow lawns, or whatever. In other words, now is that time to go out there and make you own job.

If you are a computer geek or nerd or whatever, try to find people who need computer help. If you are good on the Internet, you can probably find someone online that needs help. If you are a good writer, there are ways to finding freelance writing jobs online. The Internet is the great connector of people and you might be able to create you own job online?

Jobs for 15 year olds are going to be hard to find for a long time now that the economy is really bad. If you want to make money, now is the time to sit down and figure out other ways to do it. An online business

This is the #1 idea with the most potential. If you are fifteen, that means you probably can’t remember a time where there wasn’t computers and the Internet. You have grown up using computers and you might be very good with them. There are many ways to make money online and this is something you can do from your home with little to no start up costs.

You might have taken classes showing you how to create web pages, set up blogs, and any number of other things online. Making money on the Internet is only limited by your imagination and you have probably read stories of kids starting up some business online and becoming very successful.

As an example, you might read this blog about lead generation and online surveys for money that will explain to you how to get leads (and money for those leads) for a site called CashCrate. It is all done by setting up blogs (which are free) and learning how to get visitors to those blogs and having them sign up under your referral link. This is just one of the many ways you can learn how to make money online and if you are an inventive teen, you can probably think of many other ways.

A computer tutor or website development service

Along the same lines as the online business, you can make money by teaching others how to use a computer and even creating web sites for them. Adults are notorious for needing computer help ranging  from setting things up to learning how to use their personal computers. Many adults who don’t use computers at their job want to learn how to do things online and need all kinds of help that you might be able to provide.

Setting up and designing blogs and websites for this type of person is a service you might be able to make good money at and you can even get clients from around the world if you know how. You might start out at some computer forums and get ideas that way of what types of needs are out there.

A pet walking and pet sitting service

This is something that any 15 year old can do and you might be suprised at the demand. People go on vacation all the time and need their pets taken care of and walked. You might be able to save them money from sending their pets to a kennel by providing this type of service. Additionally, you don’t need people to go on vacation to make money as you can offer to walk their pets everyday for a small fee. Adults are busy with work and kids which means they don’t have enough time to devote to walking their dogs. This is where you come in and this type of service can be both fun and successful.  

A school tutoring service

If you are good at math, science, or some other school subject, you can try to find other students that need help. By tutoring other students you will not only make money but you will also get the satisfaction of helping others. You will be competing with services that do this for a living but if you show that you can do the same job as they do for less money, it will be easy for you to get and keep clients.

A cooking / catering service

If you enjoy cooking and baking, you might be able to start a service where you prepare home cooked meals or some other variation of this. Many families now have both the mother and father out of the house all day working at a full time job. This leaves very little time for them to cook and eat good nutritious food which is a service you can provide.
